Living with diabetes is a challenge. It requires learning how to take care of yourself and your diabetes. Success is not only based on what you know, but also what you do with that knowledge. The Diabetes Education Center offers classes to help you and your support person learn self-care skills, independence and lifestyle changes that can make a real difference in how you feel every day.
Our diabetes educators work with you and your physician to develop an individualized treatment plan which enables you to learn self-management skills which allow you to live a healthier life. Education is available in a group setting, but individualized sessions can also be conducted as needed on meal planning, blood glucose monitoring, medications and insulin administration.
Self-management education is offered for adults with type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes. Education on preventing diabetes is also offered.
The Diabetes Education Center has earned the Certificate of Education Recognition by the American Diabetes Association, as well as certification by the state of Iowa.
