Our Oncology, Hematology, & Infusion Services

We offer chemotherapy and infusion therapy provided by a team of professionals for you and your family. Our patients' comfort and well-being are our primary concern while receiving care. Infusion therapy is an effective way to administer medication that may otherwise be difficult for the patient to take. It can also be used for chronic illnesses and to help patients manage their conditions by staying on a regular schedule. Infusion therapy can be defined as the administration of fluids and medications through a needle or catheter into the bloodstream. This allows for a more direct route of delivery to the body and a faster onset of effects so patients can better utilize their medicine and enjoy more benefits from it. Infusions are commonly used for drug administration in cancer treatments, to help treat infections, respiratory problems, and other ailments including

  • Chemotherapy
  • Immunotherapy
  • Hydration
  • Phlebotomy
  • Injections
  • Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) Line Care
  • Vascular Access
  • Blood Transfusions
  • Infusions for multiple chronic conditions including Rheumatoid Arthritis, Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Organ Transplant, Osteoporosis & Asthma Support Services & Programs

The Cancer Survivor Support Group meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 11:30am in the MCMH Conference Room. A cancer diagnosis brings questions, fears, and unknowns. This group provides an opportunity to discuss cancer-related issues with people coping with the same type of situation in a relaxed environment.

Journeys Grief Support Group

Journeys is a support group that provides a safe, supportive atmosphere to learn about and understand the grief process, to share grief experiences, and to search for a renewed sense of meaning and purpose in life. Patient Testimonial

"In September I began my journey with ovarian cancer.  I had been to a Gynecology Oncologist specialist in Omaha.  When asked where I wanted to get my treatments, he said Red Oak was excellent, and he had great experience working with this oncology team.

This department works like a well-run team.  While you might think people who work with cancer might always be serious, every staff member has been upbeat   They have chosen to have a positive attitude.  Even when I am getting blood, there are smiles and laughs and concern.  All have been so good about answering all questions and keeping a fun atmosphere during any procedure.

You do not need to be in the oncology unit very long before you know they enjoy each other and “play” together.  One month they were setting different personal goals each week and assisted each other.  At least two nurses went to hand out candy at Halloween at a community walk.  This is contagious for the patients and lets us have fun too.  I love they have chosen to use Superhero band-aids for every patient, young and old.  We all like to “play.”

When each member is with you, you feel you are their only patient.  It may be the social worker who is lavishing gifts to make the journey more comfortable.  It may be the little whisper of “I’m praying for you,” that means so much.  It may be Dr. Breier giving a little hug after the months of treatment.  Each person has been present for me.  I always felt like I was very informed of what was happening.  The day after my first chemotherapy procedure the office called to check on how I was doing, made some suggestions to assist with discomfort, and was so supportive.  Every time I come, for bloodwork or chemotherapy, I am asked about how I have felt, what they can do to assist, and answered the questions."

Their knowledge, professionalism,  and expertise were always evident.  With every infusion I was told what I was being given and what it would do.  Any “off feeling” was valid and it was adjusted to make it better. When I got to spend the day with them for my 70th birthday, I went back to my chair, they had put up birthday streamers and posters.  Each patient is special to them.
