MCMH Auxiliary Donates $15,000 to Support Cafeteria Equipment and Nurse Honor Guard Program
July 02, 2025
Red Oak, Iowa – The Montgomery County Memorial Hospital (MCMH) Auxiliary recently presented a $15,000 donation during their Annual May Breakfast, continuing their proud legacy of supporting patient care, staff wellness, and volunteerism at MCMH.
This year’s contribution will fund the purchase of new equipment for the hospital cafeteria and provide vital support for the newly established Nurse Honor Guard program, which honors nurses at the end of life with a ceremony that reflects the deep compassion and dignity of their profession.
“We are so proud to continue the tradition of giving back to our hospital,” said Shirley Koppen, MCMH Auxiliary President. “Every dollar we raise reflects the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. Whether it’s serving in the cafeteria, helping in the gift shop, or planning events, our members care deeply about the well-being of our hospital and our community.”
With more than 100 active and sustaining members contributing over 3,500 hours of service last year, the MCMH Auxiliary plays a vital role in enhancing patient experiences and supporting hospital staff. Since its founding in 1961, the Auxiliary has raised over $1 million to fund hospital equipment and special projects.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Auxiliary for this generous gift,” said Jed Westover, MCMH Food Service Manager. “The new equipment will help us continue to provide high-quality meals to patients, staff, and visitors while improving efficiency for our team.”
Part of this year’s donation also supports the hospital’s Nurse Honor Guard, a moving tribute to nurses who have dedicated their lives to care and compassion.
“It is truly an honor to be part of this program,” said Amy Rydberg, RN. “The Nurse Honor Guard recognizes the deep commitment nurses have to their patients and communities, even beyond their years of service. The Auxiliary’s support means the world to us.”
The MCMH Auxiliary welcomes new members year-round. Membership is only $5 annually and does not require volunteer hours, though opportunities to get involved are plentiful and rewarding. To learn more or to join, visit www.mcmh.org/about/get-involved/mcmh-auxilary.
