Montgomery County Memorial Hospital + Clinics Continues Providing Award Winning Stroke Care
October 21, 2024
Red Oak, Iowa -- MCMH + Clinics is nationally recognized for its commitment to providing high-quality cardiovascular and stroke care. The American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® and Mission: Lifeline® has awarded MCMH + Clinics with three different achievement awards for demonstrating commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of stroke, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital.
Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a stroke or heart attack, and heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively. Studies show patients can recover better when providers consistently follow treatment guidelines.
Get With The Guidelines and Mission: Lifeline put the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest evidence and research-based guidelines. As a participant in Mission: Lifeline and Get With The Guidelines programs, MCMH + Clinics qualified for the awards by demonstrating how their organization has committed to improving quality care.
MCMH + Clinics is committed to improving care by adhering to the latest treatment guidelines and streamlining processes to ensure timely and proper care for strokes. Hailey Runyon, MCMH’s Acute Stroke Program Coordinator states, “The Mission: Lifeline and Get With The Guidelines programs make it easier for our teams to put proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis, which helps us ensure more people in Montgomery County experience longer, healthier lives.”
This year, Montgomery County Memorial Hospital received the following achievement awards from The American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines:
Ron Kloewer, CEO states, “As a hospital in a rural community, we deal with unique challenges, such as extended transportation times and limited staffing resources. We've made it a goal to make sure those hurdles do not affect the standard of care our stoke patients receive. Rural communities deserve high quality stroke care. I'm proud of our team for their commitment to stroke care excellence, this achievement shows that we have achieved that goal.”
“These awards show MCMH + Clinic's commitment to caring for those in their community who need cardiovascular care,” said Donald Lloyd-Jones, chair of the American Heart Association Quality Oversight Committee and chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine at Northwestern Medicine. “By following the American Heart Association’s quality improvement protocols, MCMH + Clinics can help realize our shared vision of improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates – a win for health care systems, families and communities.”
In addition to these three awards from The American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines, MCMH + Clinics was also awarded Primary Stroke Center Certification by The Joint Commission offered in collaboration with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. Achieving Primary Stroke Center displays exceptional efforts in fostering better outcomes and the quality of care meets the unique and specialized needs of stroke patients.
Primary Stroke Center Certification is designed for hospitals providing the critical elements to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes for stroke patients. In order to qualify for this certification, MCMH + Clinics collects data monthly for each measure required, including time patients enter the door till they are transferred to another hospital, ensuring patient and family is given the Stroke Education they need, patient numbers being assessed for rehabilitation, and so much more. This data is then submitted quarterly to The Joint Commission.
Being awarded Primary Stroke Center Certification as well the three American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines awards, demonstrates the commitment to a higher standard of clinical service and care. As an organization, MCMH strives towards excellence in care, strengthening community confidence in the quality and safety of care, treatment and services.
